what do you think of my sps/clam tank plans so far

Postby Brad_608 on Fri Jan 21, 2005 2:25 am

Well let me tell you my plan.

I'm going to setup a
70+ gallon SPS clam tank :rocker:
with 60+ lbs. LR,
maybe two or three small fish ,
two or three other high light corals,
and lots of zoo's.

It will have dual 250 w MH with
2/65 w pc actinics,
2/65 w pc day lamps,
4-1w moon lights.

A 55 sump 5lbs. LR/refugium ,
mag 18 pump@ 4' ,
aqua c remora skimmer/maxi 1200,
HOB filter on sump for carbon,
plus reo seio 820 & maxi 1200
for more flow.

So I need an overflow for this setup.
What size & dimensions
would you guys recommend ?
(anyone got one for a good deal )

Still deciding on exact size,
What do you think would be best
for this setup.
Hope to setup in the middle of march.
Will use water & sand from my
55 to start it, most of the live rock,
and cleanup crew.
All other inhabitants will be reduced to a
30 gallon or be traded.

Plan to build stand, and canopy in early march.

Well I think thats it.

Let me know if I forgot something. (wich I'm sure I did )

What do you think ?

Brad

What are you doing for a substrate? Barebottom, SSB, DSB, plenum? I used a remora on my 55g running barebottom for a while and got pretty good results, but after upgrading to an ER cs8-1 the tank has been running a lot better. You may want more flow than just one seio as well. I have 2 in my 55g and want to add a third. They put out a lot of flow, but I can never have too much flow :)

As far as a good overflow, you could go with a dual lifereef, otherwise the amiracle overflows are supposed to be of similar design. I'm not sure if they have dual models or if you would go with two of them, but I'm sure you can find something.

Otherwise it sounds like it should be a great tank, can't wait to see pictures of it!

was thinking probably BB / starboard.

I was thinking about a larger skimmer
but I already have this one so I'll probably try it.

Also was thinking of adding a calc reactor.

I will take pics of the whole project.

I will probably get 1-2 more seio 820's

Think I should get a tank with built in overflow?

All right
I've been looking and I think I'm going
to build an external overflow and
put it on the end of the tank making
it veiwable from three sides.

I'm also entertaining the idea of
getting a tank with the
two large sides angeled 25%.

what do ya think ?
