Live rock out of water

Postby seppuku_187 on Thu Jun 06, 2013 11:42 pm

I bought some live rock at a local pet store and the guy just put in a box did not cover it or anything I believe it was out for 2 hours. Any chance it's alive still.
Thanks

Some of the life may have died sponges coraline algae ect. however the bacteria and much of the micro fauna are still alive. When LR is shipped it is at best covered with damp news paper. It is truly a wonder to me how much life is seeded from a peice of rock. There was a time when I watched my rock way more than my one fish;)

two hours is nothing. tidal pools see no water for 4 hours + each day. its obviously not optimal, however i doubt you will have any noticable death. like mentioned above when live rock is shipped... even if the supplier waits until the last second to box it, it still sits in a box for 3-4 days to get shipped. its common practice and perfectly safe
