Chinese Made LED floodlights from Ebay

Postby Jake on Fri Nov 15, 2013 9:17 am

Hello Everyone,

I just wanted to share my recent experience on these LED floodlights on Ebay.com.

I set up a 40 breeder refugium off of my 75 gallon sump. Initially I planned to use a 150w HQI halide on it. I ended up purchasing 2 - 10w "Cool White" LED floodlights to try them out and compare to the 150 HQI. They were only $10 a piece with free shipping! So they came without a power cord, whatever no big deal. I wired them both to one power cord. Plugged them in and WOW these things are amazing!

I don't know if they will actually grow the chaeto I got from Madcityreefer yet but they are just as bright as that 150w HQI I have. They sell them in all colors and wattage. Definately worth a try guys! Cheap is good

Will update in a month or so on my chaeto growth.

Hey guys, here is an update. I wasn't getting any growth with just the warm white LED spotlights. I ordered two additional solid red units. Now I'm getting good growth on the chaeto. 40 watts total. 2 red and 2 warm white 10 watts each. If you order you may want to try just the red ones. They seem to really like the red spectrum.

When you say red, did you do the RGB LED floodlights from eBay?

I changed my fuge light to a fuge light from reefbreeders. It's a mix of red/white leds. Since adding it my plants have taken off. I'm regularly having to take out handfuls of various plants. It's awesome. Plus it fits in a normal lightbulb socket. I have a desk lamp with a clip that it's running in now.

I use to run a 6500k 20w multichip over my fuge and ive never had my macro grow so fast. All for about 10 bucks. I debated those flood lights a couple time. Same concept I just dont have a fancy housing.

tickle and Blue2Fyr3 - can you provide links to what you are talking about? I'm looking to get a new light for the fuge on my tank and am interested in going the cheap LED route.
