Green water.......

Postby Nrs2b on Tue Aug 16, 2016 9:32 am

I have started to fill my 90 gal (green water) and 40 gal breeder (clear water). I am using used sand that has been rinsed.......... I am almost done filling the main tank (waiting for another hose adaptor, my plastic broke on my ro di unit) But the water is green in the 90. What can I do about it? It's more than likely from the sand I'm assuming........ is there a way to fix it without replacing the sand?

Have you tried just running some carbon and a skimmer on it? It will probably clear up on it's own. If it was old live sand there was probably lots of old organic material in it that just needs to be removed. Carbon works great for soaking up "impurities" in the water and the skimmer should help pull all that old junk out of the water too.
