Building a sump for a 120 gallon from scratch

I am new to the reef community n I have been doing a lot of research to get my 120 gallon up n running I have been looking into making my own sump tank but I'm very confused with what is needed in one
and how big it should be! Any help I can get would be much appreciated!

Size is up to you and how much room you have under the stand. Most people will just get a 40 breeder if you want to get a DIY sump. Honestly i would suggest a pre built sump as they are better quality and with the cost of materials needed for a few bucks more you could have a nicer looking one thats premade

I made the sump in my 55g reef and it has served me well for 3+ years. I have a double baffle on each side of the refugium to minimize micro bubbles in the MD. I have enough room for a chiller pump, return pump, filter sock, heater, and a large ball of chaeto algae. The most costly materials were the custom cut panes of glass, that ran me about 40 bucks. Otherwise I got all other materials for cheap. I made my refugium/sump for less than $75. I use a light from home depo to grow the algae on a cheap timer. Never any issues.
