Blu-Ray DVD Player Rocks!

Postby Bubbareefer on Tue Jul 18, 2006 5:30 pm

I picked up a Blu-Ray DVD player. It is one of the best looking DVD players I have ever seen. It is just like being in a movie cinima. The sound out put to the speakers is alot clearer than standard dvd or HD dvd too. So for all you High Def. junkies this toy is worth it and I just felt like sharing.

What type of TV are you using it on?? I was thinking of getting one but the price is a little high still. How did you decide between HD-DVD and Blue Ray?

I actually tryied both. The difference is night and day. After the HD, which was ok, I saw the blu-Ray at bestbuy and the pic. quaility was 5 times better. I am using an 50" Hitachi cinima series LCD projection which can do the 1080p. The sound is amazing too. for that I am using an onkyo THX cert. reciever. Watching the 5th Element was like watching it at the cinima. IMO don't waste your money on the HD-DVD, Blu-Ray has more room for advancement and better all around. The upconvert between the two was a big difference. The blu-ray and sound and pic. quality that made the HD seem like a normal dvd player. Just to let everyone know the DVD player I have for sale is not the HD that got returned because of defect. If you deside on a HD DVD don't get the toshiba. It has a loud fan and breaks really easy.

I LOVE the 5th Element. Don't ask me why. For a movie, it's rather dumb, but I think it's great. Milla Jovovich probably.

I don't have the TV for it right now, but I figure I'll get the PS3 when it comes out. I'm guessing that a lot of people will buy the PS3 even if they don't want it for games, it'll just be the cheapest Blu-Ray machine out there.

Should have been more clear 50" Hitachi rear projection LCD TV the good one runs about $2,500. As for the speakers Infinity's. I like the soft dome tweeter sound.

if you get the time you should take a look at what university audio has. they have a extremely nice selection. last year i bought a pair of paradigm studio 100's and the matching center. I barely even have to use my sub, cause the two fronts put out soo much bass.

I think that you need 1080P to truly take advantage of the Blu-Ray, but like normal, I'm probably wrong. :)

well you are right!

1080p is better, but you would still blow you and your friends away with 1080i.

but to me blu-ray isnt just about HD its also the sound capabilities.. with movies being dubbed in 7.1 and soon even 8.1... sound TO me is just as important as video... sometimes more.

To be honest the picture is so clear that I can barely tell the ifference between 1080i and 1080p, The sound however I am taking full advantage of and it is really impressive. they only have 5.1 and 6.1 out right now but when you watch the Steath blu-ray it sounds like you are in a jet.

My Sony DTS 5.1 system is older than dirt, but it still works great. I can't even imagine what the new stuff sounds like.

I've got Polk RT stuff across the front, an Infinity sub and JBL rears. The wife just doesn't appreciate it. :)

movies are not being encoded in 7.1 or 8.1 yet the recievers are taking your 4th and 5th (or your 6th for DTS) channels and breaking them up even further into your 6th and 7th channels. so the 7.1 revieceras are mearly "simulating" it, the dvd's are not encoded that high yet. Ive talked to one of the specalty shops here in madison and he seems to think that they will not be encoding anything higher than 6.1.

forgot to mention that at E3 this year, Sony annoucned the PS3 will cost 500 for the base version, witch will not have a blue-ray player in it(and missing many other features). For 600 you get the blue-ray and all the other goodies.
