Eel Bites Off Divers Thumb

Postby Rueg on Sat Mar 24, 2007 10:50 am

Warning - this is kind of gross - so don't watch it if you don't want to see such a thing! This is a rather long video and not for those with dial-up. A guy is feeding a large moray eel hot dogs and gets his thumb bitten off. But what was more disturbing (to me) was he had a toe taken off his foot and grafted on to where his thumb used to be! He can even bend it. Freaky! ... thumb.html

This video reminds me off one of the "kids" who went on the winter Hawaii dive trip with the club. We kept telling him not to touch anything, but he wouldn't listen....even after he brought up a cone shell. The boat captain told him he's lucky he hadn't gotten harpooned, cuz if he managed to live to get to the boat, he never would have survived to make it to a hospital.

I hate diving with people that don't respect the animals and reef. I guess this is one more example for why it isn't a good idea. Jeff

Haha! What a ding dong. I bet he'll try to feed it again.

Thankfully he wasn't diving in the buff - could have been a lot worse!

i don't know about you but i would not feed a wild animal out of my hands anything that looked like my fingers. Its amazing that the eel took off all of the thumb, there was nothing left at all.

Ha! Nice one Bob. Hopefully that guy has not conditioned that eel for a bad habit - expecting to be fed hot dogs. Could have a news report about a mad eel biting off peoples fingers (or other appendages!).

I love when nature bites back at people for doing stupid things. Excuse the pun.
