My Musky Adventure

Postby Larson G on Sun Aug 02, 2009 12:56 pm

I know we are all tropical fish fanatics on here; however I am also a avid fisherman outside of the reef aquarium. :) Recently I went on a charter musky fishing expedition up around Pewaukee, WI. Actually met the guy through Mars, you might have noticed the handle, utlimatemusky. I know! So many useful people on Mars! :) Anyway my dad and I went; had to get up there by four thirty AM which wasn't fun but the 42" Musky I caught sure was a blast! My dad pulled in a 42" Garfish. The teeth on that fish were many and sharp; I wouldn't want to be swimming and come across that guy. I'll say also its a nice break as the crew set up the lines, bait and all that, The boat looks unassuming size-wise but its jam-packed with high tech fish finding goodies. My dad and I had a great time, thanks John! Check out this pic, I think it speaks for itself!

Nice! Went up to Pelican Lake probably 20 years ago and had my one and only muskie on for a short time. Just got out in the boat and it was getting dark, still had my bass spinner bait on and threw it out. Upon bringing it in, I brought it straight up out of the water and a giant muskie came straight up out of the water and tried to grab it, missed and went back under. Dropped the lure right back in and it grabbed it, had it on for about 5 minutes then lost it. Haven't seen another one since, but never really tried for them either.

Sure did get the ole' heart pumpin' though. :)

I agree. He is a great guy. He loves the musky. He still owes me a fishing trip one of these days. :D

If anyone wants to try musky fishing up north, this is the year. The weather has been so screwy up there they are biting on anything! TIP- Bring your winter coat! It just might snow. My daughter was fishing for blue gills with a little tiny worm on a hook and had a 40" follow up on her line, scared the ba-geebees out of her :D Same repeat performances with spinners, jigs etc. All summer long.
