Humuhumunukunukuapuaa Dethroned; Fishy Story

HONOLULU -- It may not be a name that rolls off the tongue, but ask any Hawaiian and they're sure to know the name of the state fish.

The problem is the humuhumunukunukuapuaa, or "humuhumu" for short, has been dethroned.

The rectangular triggerfish was named state fish in 1984 and lawmakers limited the designation to five years. Problem is, no one told the public the humuhumu's reign was over, so few knew anything had changed.

The news shocked Congressman Blake Oshiro, who found out about the glitch just recently from a six-year-old.

Oshiro has now drawn up a bill to make the stubby-nosed, brightly striped and slightly aggressive little fish the official state fish once again.
