I inherited some nice "seasoned" rock from another reefer here, and I love the rock, but it has a perpetual algae problem. I'm tried scrubbing it, but it just always comes back. I even kept it in the dark for a couple months before putting it in the tank, but this algae is tough. I have lots of snails and a decent number of hermits. I also have a blue-tuxedo urchin, but nothing seems to put much of a dent in this algae. I could probably have cleaner water (RO/DI unit is getting old), so I wouldn't be surprised if the PO4 is higher than it should be, but everyone in the tank seems pretty happy (corals and fish that is). Any suggestions for something that would mow this down? I have an eyelash blenny that doesn't seem interested in picking anything from the rocks.
Should I try a rainford goby? Maybe a mithrax crab? Maybe try to loan out a sea hare? Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated!
Thanks,
Nick
