MadCityReefers 110gal tank build

Postby MadCityReefer on Thu Apr 11, 2013 12:01 am

So I decided to up grade to a larger tank cause my corals are over growing my current 58gal Oceanic tank. Funny thing is I down sized from a 90gal to a 58gal just to go back to a larger tank. So here it is, I have a special place in my heart for Oceanic tanks "RIP Oceanic" The tanks are built last, super heavy duty, super heavy unlike my 27gal Marineland Column tank which scratches if you look at it funny!! #-o

I picked this 110 Oceanic up from Craigslist, drove all they way to Chicago to get it. Came with a solid oak stand and canopy black finish, and has duel over flows.

I originally I was going the LED route and was going to wait till I could afford them but who I'm I kidding I can't wait to set this thing up. So I picked up a ATI 60" 8x80W SunPower T5 from eco reef on MARS for a good price. They might be a little bit of over kill so I think I will run 6 out of the 8 bulbs.

I debated for sometime on what type of sump I was going to use. Originally I was going to add a DIY refugium in line with my 30" Eshopps Reef Sump RS-100 but I like to keep things neat and pretty so I decided on a Trigger Systems Ruby 36S any one have any experience with Trigger Systems, from what I read there solid. Sump should be here by next week and will do a un boxing when it comes in.

Got my sump/refugium today from Premium Aquatics Trigger Systems 36" Ruby and it's AWESOME!!! It was packaged very very well except for the puncture on the side of the box but luckly no damage. I was also worried my skimmer wouldn't fit in the first compartment but low behold it fits perfectly. Cant wait to get this this up and running.

Got the tank in place of where my old one was
Image

Filter in place, tank filled, decided to use all new sand becuase my old stuff was well over 10yrs old and I heard the old sand can leach out phosphates.
Image

Filtration is looking sweet, tons of room really happy with it so far. Still have hook up my Calcium Reactor, should be fun, my first time using one. Got a good deal on a old MRC CR-2 Dual Calcium Reactor

Moved over most my rock and corals

Still not done with the lanscaping I have rock that still needs to go in that I can't live witout.

Newest addition, male and female Flame Wrasse purchased from Living Art Aquarium. Yes that is the same fish, but changes color depending on mood!
