20 Long Build

Postby adammonte on Mon Sep 28, 2015 10:17 pm

Hi all! I haven't been to active on here lately, but wanted to document my build. I currently have a 55 gallon, but it's time to downsize a bit. I've learned so much from many mistakes made on the 55 and look forward to putting all of my knowledge into this tank. I'm sure more mistakes will be made, but I have no doubt this tank will be more successful than the 55 has been. It's time to slow down and "do it right" this time. The pictures are from today (Day 1). :D Tank is an Aqueon that has been drilled to use a glass holes overflow and return. Sump was made from a standard 10 gallon aquarium. Equipment includes a 50 watt Aqueon heater (that I plan on replacing), two hydor power heads, coralife 65 skimmer, two little fishes gfo reactor 150, and a small marineland return pump that does the trick. I have BRS reef saver rock on the way to add to the 20 lbs of Fiji Pink sand.

This pic is a week or so old, but not much has changed as the tank continues to cycle. Ammonia is sitting around .5 ppm, nitrites slightly above zero, and nitrates at zero. I figured the cycle would take 3 weeks with the dry rock. We'll see how close I am!
