ELI5 - LED lighting settings

Postby Reeseman222 on Thu Feb 11, 2016 11:14 am

I recently added a TaoTronics 120W TT-AL12 Programmable Reef LED to my tank.

Can someone explain it like I am 5 (ELI5) on what would be the best settings for coral growth or just a happy tank?

I know that there is a lot of literature about different K setting and PAR levels but it is really going over my head.

Play around with it but what you're trying to do is mimic nature so ramp LEDs up to high par and then down. Dusk till dawn keeping in mind that natural habitat is a blue filter. Basically I start up with Blue's ramping to 75% - 100% around noon and ramp down the blues to zero around 9:00 p.m. For the whites I'll ramp up starting around 10:00 -11:00 a.m. to around 60% - 85% at noon for about 1 to 2 hours and then ramp them down to 0% around 6:00 p.m. So I get the nice pop at night when I can enjoy them blue pop of the corals. I'm not sure what your livestock consists of but I've been running a mixed reef for a few years now with this theory and have had great success.
